Power Over leadership follows an authoritarian approach, exerting control and power over its team members with very little true collaboration. Power Over is typically based in zero-sum thinking, believing that when others gain power another leader has to lose it in return. On the other hand, Power With leadership understands that power is expansive when shared. It harnesses the power of co-creation and co-design to support the thriving of a collective group.
Power With leadership aligns with Sylver’s three core values of shared appreciation, collaboration, and personal responsibility. We apply these principles both in our company culture and in the relationships we build with our clients.
Another way of understanding Power With is through the lens of servant leadership, where “getting it right” is more important than “being- right.” We help push ourselves and our clients alike to reflect on and work towards what is best for the collective good.
Additionally, at Sylver, everyone is invited and encouraged to speak up; everyone has a seat at the table and their opinions are heard and considered as paths forward are created. When we share power we foster more cohesion and creativity as a team, leading to more fresh and inspired ideas for our clients!
