We’re blogging…finally!

April 7, 2009  Author: Brianna

My friend Niti Bhan has been after me for five years to “get blogging.” And then more recently, our Communications Specialist, Andrea Camara, has been prodding me monthly, “What if…”. Obviously, I’ve been reluctant.

I’ve understood the theoretical value of having a blog right from the start. I’ve never needed convincing on that. It’s that little voice in my head that’s repeatedly put the kibosh to the idea…the one that says, “How on earth will you find the time to keep up a blog?” I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that a small part of me wants to shut down the computer right now and run the other way. But, to do so, would be denying myself something that I’ve come to enjoy.

You see, I test drove the concept of having a blog. I started a personal blog back in October 2008, called Designing Marriage. I’ve found that there are so many things I have enjoyed about that experience of blogging that I never foresaw looking at the activity from a theoretical perspective alone. The writing practice is second to none, as are the challenges posed from readers to go deeper on your thoughts, refining them and making them clearer. It’s been a really fun venture for me. And, as a result, I’ve come to question some of my initial reluctance to blog on behalf of Sylver Consulting.

So, here we are…Niti and Andrea have prevailed and Sylver Consulting’s blog has been launched. It’s a good day! : ) Thanks girls!

In keeping with our company’s services and offerings, the content of the blog will be about market research and innovation. The diagram below offers a visual of where we see this going.

In short, we want this blog about how to make connections between the needs of customers/ users and the requirements and priorities of the organizations serving them.

We encourage you to offer your viewpoints on any and all content that we might post here, either through the comments section or emailing us directly. (Hint: The email address convention at Sylver is first name@sylverconsulting.com). We want to hear from you! After all, in this forum, our readers are our users and we want to make sure we’re creating a fun, engaging and enjoyable experience for all.

    Congrats!

Funny little interface thing: since this is the first comment, at the bottom of the entry it said Comments: No Comments, but in order to add a comment, the link to click was the “No Comments” text, and it’s almost like clicking the phrase “no comment” which is of course the exact opposite of what I’m doing by commenting. These little fiddly things with blogs are kinda fun/weird but fortunately there are plenty of standards out there to check your own blog against as you make UI upgrades.

    Hi Steve!

Thanks for the congrats and for pointing out the non-intuitiveness of the comments submission process. Funny what the “default” is on things, huh? Anyway, wanted to let you know this has been fixed. Instead of saying “no comments,” it simply will read “comment” now when no comments are attached to a post.

    I appreciate the feedback!

Congratulations, Brianna! I know all about that reluctance as I only recently “gave in” to blogging as well.

You’re right, though: The writing practice is terrific and I’m sure your clients and would-be clients will be privileged to find out more about your service and your expertise.

    Best of luck with it!

    Thanks Karen!

Yes, I’m very excited about this new venture. In addition to being a forum for myself and others at Sylver Consulting to share our viewpoints on research, strategy, customer understanding, innovation, etc., I hope this blog will encourage others to share their perspectives. I firmly believe that we all have a lot to learn from one another. This can become yet another channel from which we impart that knowledge.
